A true beach house with shelter, sunshine and bay views

Adventure Bay beach was recently named one of Australia’s best beaches. Here’s a rare
opportunity to secure a true beach house, just a few steps from the sandy shore of Quiet Corner,
at the sheltered northern end of Adventure Bay beach.

ICONS D67-01

A once in a lifetime opportunity

The three-bedroom brick dwelling looks out over the bay from its sunny position at the front of a large block measuring 3215 sq m (~0.8 acres). Entry to the house is through a spacious and partially-enclosed courtyard, the place for comfortable outdoor seating behind full-height glazing. The living/dining area features a cosy open fire and large windows on three sides of the room for beach and garden views. The bright kitchen, with breakfast bar and timber cupboards, also enjoys lovely views of the bay.

There are two bathrooms, one inside the home and one off the courtyard. Both have walk-in glass shower cubicles, vanities and toilets. Two of the three bedrooms are inside and both are carpeted. The third bedroom is off the courtyard, close to the second bathroom, making this area a useful private space for guests. The laundry occupies an open room in the same part of the home.

Outside in front of the house there’s a large outdoor setting, ideal for summer afternoon entertaining. A side door leads to an outdoor terrace area. At the rear of the house is a useful storage shed. The surrounding land is neatly-mown and there are attractively landscaped gardens in front, with a variety of native and exotic plantings.

A sandy track makes it easy to launch a boat in Quiet Corner, ready for some fishing, diving or sailing in the bay. It’s even easier for kayakers, who can just drag their craft from the lawn to the water.

Adventure Bay’s excellent general store, the town’s new café, the community hall and sports facilities are all within easy walking distance, via the safe off-road walk and bike track just behind the beach.

The house was built as a holiday home in 1988 and it has been loved and cared for by the same family ever since – this is the first time the property has changed hands in 35 years. Properties so close to the beach don’t come on the market often – this one will attract plenty of interest, so call Jude and don’t miss the chance to inspect prior to the auction.

Getting to know Bruny Island

661 Adventure Bay Road - outside - 72dpi DIGITAL (6 of 7)

A small island off a big island off an even bigger island – that’s Bruny. But Bruny Island really isn’t all that small – it’s about 64 kilometres from Dennes Point on the northern tip to Cape Bruny Lighthouse in the south.

The landscapes change dramatically through those 80 kilometres. North Bruny is gentler and more rural, with sheltered beaches and rolling farmlands. On the other side of The Neck, a narrow isthmus that joins the two parts of the island, South Bruny has tall forests, high sea cliffs and wild, rugged coastlines – although the seaside settlement of Adventure Bay is an exception to all that wildness. Here in ‘The Bay’, a beautiful crescent of sandy beach faces eastwards to the Tasman Sea and the friendly people in the community enjoy a relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Bruny residents love the many attractions of island life – beach walks, swimming, kayaking, surfing, fishing, boating – as well as the appeals of the local produce, which includes oysters, honey, cheese, artisan bread, craft beer, farmhouse cider and the wines from Australia’s southern-most vineyard.

Bruny is reached by a 15 minute ferry crossing from the port of Kettering, which is about a 40 minutes’ drive from Hobart.

661 Adventure Bay Road could be the place where you can establish your own island lifestyle – call Jude to find out how.
